Screen Catcher consists of two components: the Screen Catcher application, and the Screen Catcher Extension.
The Screen Catcher application performs all the basic screen capture functions, palette reduction, and post processing, as documented in this manual.
The Screen Catcher Extension is optional - it does not need to be installed for Screen Catcher to work. The extension allows you to capture images with menus pulled down. It also allows the Screen Catcher hotkeys to automatically launch Screen Catcher when you need to take a snapshot.
For most uses, you do not need to install the Screen Catcher Extension. To begin using Screen Catcher, just double click on the application.
Installation
The Screen Catcher application requires no special installation. It can be located anywhere, and can be run by simply double-clicking on its icon.
To install the Screen Catcher Extension, drag it onto your System Folder, and answer "OK" when prompted by the Finder to place it in your Extensions folder. Then restart your Macintosh.
Basic Operation
Screen Catcher is ready to run as soon as you double click on it. The "factory defaults" for Screen Catcher will get you up and running quickly, though there are many other options and features in Screen Catcher that you may want to explore.
The following are Screen Catcher's default settings:
• Hotkey for region capture: ⌘-Option-R
• Hotkey for window capture: ⌘-Option-W
• Hotkey for screen capture: ⌘-Option-S
• Images will be captured to a new window.
• Adjustable selection (manual fine tuning of the rectangle) is turned on.
• The cursor image will not be included in captured images.
• Screen Catcher will become the frontmost application after a screen capture.
• No post processing (modification of the color palette) will be performed.
Note that once Screen Catcher is running, you can use the hotkeys from within any application. It is not necessary to switch to Screen Catcher and use the commands from the Capture menu.
